Our Tours - Targa New Zealand - 2008

Rally Tours are pleased to offer for the 5th year in succession spectator and competitor transport services in conjunction with the Dunlop Targa event.

This service is designed specifically for:

  • Overseas visitors or competitors family or friends wishing to follow the Targa event without having to worry about finding their way from point to point.
  • Individuals wanting to follow this international event in the company of fellow enthusiasts.
  • Future Targa competitors wanting to experience the event without having to compete. (Our driver has competed in the Targa 8 times.)We will be closely following selected teams and will participate in the evening functions. We will drive several of the stages prior to the competing cars. “This is the next best thing to competing”.

Let us entertain your sponsors or corporate clients for the day. They can watch you compete and justify their investment!!
This year we are offering the following services, so talk to us to discuss your options. We can tailor make arrangements to suit most requests.

  • An 8-Day all-inclusive Spectator Tour. Including accommodation and evening functions. (Auckland to Auckland)
  • Select any one-day, to travel to watch selected stages during the event. (Ideal for clients and sponsors)
  • Transfers to and from functions and service parks to accommodation on a daily basis. (Especially for overseas competitors)
  • A baggage transport service for competitors throughout the event.

Our Intended Itinerary. (may be subject to change)

Sunday 22rd October – Day 1.
View all the competing cars and teams at Papakura Motor Show followed by a demonstration stage. A ride in Targa car at this time is organised for a lucky tour participant.

Monday 23th October – Day 2. Papakura to Pukekohe, Prologue Day.
We will watch the competition cars complete the Prologue stages around the Pukekohe area finishing with a few laps around the Pukekohe Park Racetrack. Attendance at the Prologue prize giving is compulsory.

Tuesday 24th October – Day 3. Pukekohe to New Plymouth.
After catching a couple of early stages in the Waikato we head for Otorohanga for lunch and the demonstration street stage. The afternoon takes us onto the night stop in New Plymouth.

Wednesday 25th October – Day 4. New Plymouth to Palmerston North.
There are some great stages to view this morning in the Taranaki before travelling South toward Wanganui and the Lunch stop. We will view one further stage before arriving in Palmerston North for the service and night stop.

Thursday 26th October – Day 5. Palmerston North to Palmerston North.
We head Rangitikei area today. Taihape is the lunch stop with a compulsory Gumboot throwing competition being part of the Targa funfair. There are some fantastic stage viewing points on offer this afternoon and we finish the day at the Manfield racetrack, which is always entertaining.

Friday 27th October – Day 6. Palmerston North to Hastings.
The Waiarapa provides the competitors with interesting and challenging roads for most of the day. We will get to see at least 2 stages this morning before heading North toward Hastings where the day finishes.

Saturday 28th October – Day 7. Hastings to Hastings.
The last day of this year’s event is possible the hardest. There are lots of great viewing opportunities today in the Hawkes Bay region. As well as the stages we check out an amazing British car collection at the lunch break. The finish in Hastings will prove to be a monumental celebration, if past years are anything to judge by. We have to be there!!

Sunday 29th October – Day 8. Hastings to Auckland.
Attendance at the Prize giving breakfast is compulsory, breakfast is good and the prize giving is a festive occasion. After lunch we journey back to Auckland via Taupo.

  • Daily Transport only service from night stop to night stop.

Tour Inclusions

1. The services of a licensed Driver / Guide with Targa experience.

2. Mini Coach of a good standard. These will be of tour standard with Air conditioning.

3. Hotel Accommodation of a 3 star plus standard on a twin share bed and breakfast basis. A single supplement will apply to those wanting single accommodation.

4. Targa competitor lunches at the service parks during the competition days.

5. Evening meals at the Targa Evening Functions or at selected restaurants.

6. Preferential viewing at the Targa Hospitality viewing locations.

7. Opportunity to travel some of the Targa Special Stages and be part of a Targa competitors team.

8. The “Targa Kit” includes a classic Car Magazine, a polo shirt, and a Targa cap. (8 day tour only)
