Rally Tours News

24-Mar-2013 - GREAT NEWS......The DAKAR Rally route and dates have been released for the 2014 event. Rosario Argentina, 400km northwest of Buenos Aires will be the launch location on the 5th January.

From there many of the traditional rally stages will be used in running parallel and Andes heading north into BOLIVIA then into Chile and the Atacama desert regions to finish at the historic sea port of Valparaiso on the 18th Jan. Bolivia's inclusion comes at the expense of Peru who hosted the ceremonial start and provided the incredible desert dune stages last year. Peru will be gutted at losing the $US500 million income that the Dakar event brought to the countries coffers in 2013.

Rally Tours is extatic with the early announcement of the route and dates which will enable tour arrangements to be finalised and advertised early. Rally Tours are ready and rearing to go for Dakar but with only 15 seats available in our 5 specially prepped Landcruiser's we need expressions of interest now.

Contact Greg or Gavin to chat about options and cost etc will appear on our website very soon. www.rallytours.co.nz

17-Feb-2013 - Have arrived back in NZ this morning and reflecting on an adventurous, enjoyable and amazing trip to the Dakar Rally and South from Santiago Chile to the Southern most tip of South America, Ushuaia.

Our kiwi Landcruiser's handled the trip with ease and are now on their way home for some TLC. The next overland planned is Vladivostok to london in June and a 3 tours in Kenya in October and November.

South American Road Trip 2013

14-Feb-2013 - Arrived back in Santiago the capital of Chile this afternoon to a warm 28 degrees C!! Greg Paul and Murray Taylor have completed the Rally Tours reccee tour of South America travelling as far South as you can go by road, Ushuaia Argentina and then relocating to Santiago in just 5 days to prepare our Landcruiser's for shipping to NZ on the 15th Feb.

Anything bad about the three countries that we have traveled in over the last 40 days is a myth. Having traveled 6000km following the Dakar Rally and a further 8000km exploring the mostly unknown non-tourististy routes in Chile and Argentina I am really excited about what we have discovered, the people we have met and the associated experiences just waiting for Rally Tours to return with antipodean visitors either in our 4x4's or classic cars.

Yes the roads are not unlike NZ's back roads but the scenery is stunning and well worth enduring some rugged roads to see what both countries have to offer. Every day is different and as well as spectacular mountains and lakes (lots of them) the vastness of the praires also takes your breath away. I look forward to promoting and talking about our plans for both the Dakar Rally and the 20 day South American self drive tours for next January, and February 2013. Check out the following photos of the South American trip. Cheers, Greg Paul from Santiago. Chile.

Toyota Hilux at Dakar 2013

28-Jan-2013 - "Rally Tours have been and conquered the toughest motor Rally in world the Dakar"

We took 2 of our own NZ Landcruiser's to Lima and chased the Rally day by day with 4 of our faithful clients Kerry and Sue Rasmussen, Neil Gourley and Murray Taylor all of whom are enthusiast photographers, and they were not disappointed!!

From the endless sand-dunes of Peru to the high altitudes of Argentina (up to 4700m) the tight, windy and wet roads of Chile we had it all.

We got close to the action everyday, sometimes too close (within a metre of the bikes and quads) and experienced the highs and lows of the Dakar event (saw a motorcyclist competitor killed on the road section) and still have trouble believing that anyone or any vehicle could survive the 15 day endurance event that is called the "DAKAR" You have to experience this amazing motorsport event if you are a true enthusiast.

Join us next year, Rally Tours has this one sorted. Cheers Greg Paul (Bariloche. Argentina) 28th January 2013
