Crossing the Gobi

Time has lapsed very quickly since our last newsletter.

Deborah has been holding down the fort at Rally Tours HQ, while Greg has been away on the Peking to Paris journey. The adventure is now at an end, a very successful trip, 25 happy clients. You can read up on the journey on the Rally Tours site http://www.rallytours.co.nz/p2p09.asp

A huge thanks must go to Silk Road, China Travel Services, Jenner Shipping, House of Travel (Papakura) and Astrata for their unwavering and invaluable support leading up to and during this tour. Greg has a short break after Paris, as he will fly to Helsinki to join a small group of NZ clients (and Rally Travel UK clients) to attend the WRC Finland. This will be another hard fought and exciting rally as Sebastien has lost his dominance over the last two rounds. Miko Hirvonen goes to his home land, leading the WRC Champs. Will we see a win on his home territory?

Greg will drive back to the UK with two of the clients. Greg would have covered 15,000 kms since June. He returns to NZ on the 13th August , and we have organized to do two presentations to clients who have expressed an interest in the P2P2010. The planning for WRC Australia has gone extremely well. We have a great group who will join Greg, John Kilpatrick and Owen Insley (guides during the rally) and RallySport Magazine. All action will be based in and round the Mantra on Salt resort hotel near Kingscliffe, NSW, which is also WRC Rally HQ. Clients join us from NZ, Japan and Australia. With the way that the drivers championship currently stands the action will be hot. And will be four days of action and excitement and WRC rallying at its best!

In 2010, NZ will host the WRC in Hamilton in May. Rally Tours will again be doing a tour, so watch our website for all the package details. We will also keep you up to date via our newsletters. Mark your diaries, and hope to see you there for next year.

Hayden Paddon

After the WRC NZ, Greg will head back to the UK, to collect vehicles and undertake a reconnaissance trip from London via Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and following the Silk Road through China to place the vehicles back in Beijing for the group that will depart on the 2010 P2P mid July departure. This will be amazing tour going through countries with extremes of culture and wealth.

For our NZ clients, take a look at the latest July edition of SpeedSport which has a great article and photos on Hayden Paddons win at Rally Whangarei, with his co-driver John Kennard. Over the weekend 11th and 12th July Hayden proved his dominance once again, and went on to win Rally Waiarapa. Well done Hayden. We wish him continued success at Possum Bourne Memorial in August. After that event he will be in preparation for WRC Australia.
